Using MyLook shortcuts for MyCon
|
Previous Top Next |
You can also create whole sets of shortcuts to reduce your main folder view's complexity. For example, say you don't want to see the complete folder tree for a MySQL connection all the time but only the databases it contains. Just select the connection's Databases folder, right-click and then click "Copy to Favourites". MyCon will now proceed to "replicate" your Databases folder structure along with all subfolders it contains in your Favourites section. Just switch views to favourites and you will have shortcuts to all your databases, tables, queries etc in favourites. You can rename each favourite folder, or give it another image and also have the exact functionality in your Favourites section which you enjoyed in your Folders section. The benefits of this is clear:
| 1. | Your folder tree depth is less and thus it takes less time expanding the folders to get to the subfolders, ex. a table or query
|
| 2. | Using Drag & Drop with your mouse, you can restructure/reorder your favourites in any way you please
|
| 3. | Favourites linked to folders in Folders are kept in sync automatically, i.e. if you add a table to a database and then click the Database/Tables shortcut in favourites, it will automatically add the database's new table as a new subfolder shortcut below the Database/Tables shortcut.

If you want to create a specific shortcut to a specific table or query, copy the shortcut as described in the first section, then right click your windows desktop and click New and then Shortcut. In the edit box, right click and then click Paste. Then click Next and give it a suitable name, in our example's case we will call it Clients, which is shortcut to our Grid View for our clients table. Now click Finished.
On your desktop you will now have a shortcut which will always open your clients table whenever you double click it. If MyLook/MyCon is not running it will be started, if it is already running, it will open the correct folder's window for you independent of where you find yourself in the Folders tree. If the specific shortcut's window is already open it will get focus. Instead of the Copy to clipboard, you can also just click the Favourites button on the Navigator to add the shortcut to your MyLook Navigation Pane's Favourites section.
